About Paula Newberry – Soprano
Praised for her rich, unique, and powerful sound, effortless high notes, and graceful stage presence, American soprano Paula Newberry continues to captivate audiences on opera and concert stages worldwide. With a fluid vocal line and a vast, versatile repertoire, Ms. Newberry’s artistry spans from commanding opera arias and classical art songs in five languages to musical theater and celebrated interpretations of African-American spirituals.
Ms. Newberry’s international career includes acclaimed appearances with premier opera companies, symphonies, and festivals across the United States, Germany, Italy, and Austria. She recently made her European operatic debut with the Berlin Opera Academy as Minerve in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and was previously invited to sing for the Bayerische Opernakademie in Germany.
An accomplished concert artist, she has graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, Berlin’s Alte Münze, and Italy’s Sala Pegasus. A frequent and beloved guest artist closer to home, she has performed with the Memphis Symphony, Memphis Sunset Symphony, Germantown Symphony, and Opera Memphis, appearing at premier venues like the GPAC, The Orpheum, and The Cannon Center.
Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for representation in the arts, the 2022/23 season marked the launch of Ms. Newberry’s production, touring, and concert promotion company, Rainbow Opera Enterprises.
Dedicated to honoring her heritage and family, Ms. Newberry frequently tours the United States with her signature curated recitals, including Night at the Opera, An Evening of Opera, and Spirit Moving Spirituals—a deeply personal project dedicated to her late parents. Her exceptional contributions to music and education were recently recognized with a Gestalt Grammy Award.
